Jake had to work today, so Erin, Col, Hamish and I decided to find a family friendly winery to visit and do a bit of wine tasting. We found a great winery nearby called ‘Xanadu’ (I know that you are probably singing the song in your head now as you read ). They had a great playground and grassy area for kids to play. Erin, Col and I ordered a yummy cheese platter and wine at the restaurant and sat in the sun sipping, nibbling and chatting.
Col then kindly played with Haim while Erin and I headed into the tasting area and worked our way through the whites and reds and settled on purchasing a beautiful DJL Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and a Fortified Muscadelle, both were delicious. We were quite surprised that the first grape variety the lady offered us when sampling the reds was a Shiraz! In SA this is a very strong and bold wine and usually sampled last, but in WA it is much lighter and the Cabernet Savignon is the stronger and bolder of the two. So we did learn something new.
On the way home we drove through the Boranup Karri Forest near Jarrahdene Campground.
Jake also compiled this great video of the visit to Lake Cave.
What are those funny looking things on the grass ?
They had been bag chairs and tables, so you could take your wine and food out onto the lawn and sit and nibble and drink in comfort! Col and Haim were just playing hide and seek under the bean bag chairs x
