The departure from Cable Beach Caravan Park went much smoother than the arrival I am happy to report. We headed out of the park around 9.30am and drove 7 and a half hours to Ngumban Cliff Rest Area which is approximately 100km past Fitzroy Crossing. We generally try to keep the driving to a maximum of 4 hours a day where possible, but we had looked at the places we wanted to spend some time on our drive over to Darwin and accepted that we would have a big drive today.
It is really amazing to me how alert I stay when listening to a good Audible Book, I don’t get sleepy at all and really don’t notice the time passing. Although I did start feeling the fatigue in the last couple of hours. I am listening to a book I am really enjoying at the moment called ‘Everything is Lies’ by Helen Callaghan. This has kept me intrigued and looking forward to the next chapter but be aware that there is some rough language in it.
Col had a kangaroo jump out in front of his car on the drive today and he locked up the brakes on the car and van to avoid the collision. His computer bag flew from the back of his car and smacked him in the back of the head, but he is ok and I am pleased to report that he missed the Roo. Luckily I was far enough behind him that I didn’t have to brake. It is a good reminder to stay vigilant on these roads as you are constantly passing cows and roos.
The boat and trailer went fine on the drive as well, considering there are no shock-absorbers now.
We stopped for lunch at a roadside stop near a massive old Boab tree, which was quite gnarly and beautiful. We are enjoying the change in the landscape to include these beautiful Boab trees that lets you know you have hit the Kimberley.
We had a brief stop in Fitzroy Crossing to refuel and then onto the free camp spot. This was called Ngumban Cliff Rest Area and is a really good free camp if you need somewhere to stay on the drive. It is quite a big camp area with toilets and you can also have a fire. There were quite a few people there when we arrived, but plenty of room for us too.
Glad to hear about trailer doing well .thank god Col is all good after roo ,Only yesterday a friend of mine hit a big red and her car is a rite off ,the roo was still alive and in massive pain ,so a policeman came and put it down ,farmer style .lucky she is ok ……keep keeping safe
Yes the trailer is going well thankfully. Sorry to hear about your friend but glad she is ok. Sad about the Roo.
xx
So glad you’re both ok. Good to keep a bit of distance between you for this exact reason! Keep safe xxx
